Last week Sig Sauer decided to publicly release that they were going to sue Springfield Armory for patent infringement against heir Sig 365 magazines. The funny thing is that if Springfield and HS Produkt copied the Sig 365 magazine….they did a bad job. Springfield and HS were able to get an extra round in beating Sig in the capacity game. Is it really a copy if they were able to engineer more capacity? Or how about the fact that magazine loading devices have been used in all sorts of flavors, shapes and ideas. Well Springfield and HS Produkt’s response to Sig Sauer is down right amazingly brutal. How about a new larger 15 round capacity Hellcat magazine….Suck It Sig!

Check out the sweet package that Springfield sent me to celebrate the release of the new magazine. Springfield really cares about the presentation and they know how to make this guy excited. In this package they sent the new magazine front and center flanked by a NeoMag Magazine pouch along with some Federal ammo.

Look at all that ammo, in todays day and age thats at least a grand! I mean if I was to resell it I would advertise that I know what I got and will not accept low ball offers, am I right?

Take a look at the XDMAN’s fleet of Hellcat pistols! From left to right we show three different capacity options you can do with the Hellcat. The 11rnd flush fit mag, 13rnd extended capacity mag and then the massive unbelievable 15 rod mag. Interesting to note that in the past I have requested a Hellcat that is the same size as a Glock 19. The G19 is a great size that meets the needs for a full sized carry pistol, while still being concealable. The RDP Hellcat is almost that exact size and capacity only its skinnier….Win win in my book.

A nice three way view of the different capacity magazines that show off how much longer the magazines are compared to each other. While some ask what’s the point of adding a magazine that’s so much longer? I answer because Springfield can, they give the end user the choice of how to customize their Hellcat. If you need deep concealment they got you covered all the way to the capacity matching a duty sized pistol.

Interesting to note is that instead of using an extended grip extension to add capacity like they did with the 13 rod magazine. For the 15 rod magazine the body is actually extended with a flat base plate. Springfield then utilizes a grip filler sleeve like they have done in the past with the XD/XDM/XDS series of pistols. This leads me to believe that in the future we may see a long grip hellcat.

A disassembly break down of all the magazines. The 11 and 13 rod mag bodies are the same size, the 13 rod mag having extra witness holes. The extra capacity comes from the hollow base pad extension.

How about a peek at some secret sauce? Springfield & Hs Produkt are no strangers to nesting magazine springs, they have used them for years. The mag spring on the right is the XDM spring: note how the top of the spring is skinnier that the bottom portion. As the spring compresses it allows the coils to nest within each other and can have a variable rate of compression. The Hellcat magazine is on the left and note how the spring has multiple areas of skinny vs fat coals allowing for more nesting potential. You can see that in the fact that the Hellcat spring is longer than the XDM spring even though the magazine body of the XDM is way longer than the Hellcat magazine body. Thats how much the spring compresses within it self…. Pretty cool.
